CERTIFICATE OF PROFICIENCY IN LIFE-SAVING APPLIANCES
Government information, May 2025
The generic exemption for officers on sailing vessels smaller than 500 GT to hold the certificate of proficiency in life-saving appliances will expire on December 1, 2025.
From this date, it is mandatory that at least one crew member holds the certificate of proficiency in safety training sailing vessels from the Enkhuizer Zeevaartschool, or the generic certificate of proficiency in life-saving equipment (PSCRB).
From July 1, 2026, all officers will be required to have such a certificate of proficiency.
What does this mean?
From the time your vessel sails after Dec. 1, 2025, it is mandatory that at least one crew member has obtained the required certificate of proficiency in custom training life-saving equipment for sailing vessels.
Many ships do not sail in winter, so for these ships at least one crew member must have obtained the required certificate of proficiency by the start of the 2026 season.
The remaining officers have until July 1, 2026 to undergo the required training and obtain the certificate of proficiency.
As of July 1, 2026, when applying for a certificate of competency for sailing vessels smaller than 500 GT, a certificate of proficiency in safety training sailing vessels, or a certificate for the generic training (PSCRB), will have to be submitted.
Good to know:
The EZS has sufficient capacity to provide the training courses.
Costs: €600,-
Dates: TBD
